Sweden keen to develop cooperation with Belarus in woodworking, light industry, IT

MINSK, 5 April (BelTA) - Sweden is interested in developing cooperation with Belarus in woodworking, light industry, and IT, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sweden to Belarus Christina Johannesson told the media ahead of the seminar on the Specifics of Belarusian Exports to Sweden on 5 April, BelTA has learned.

“Our companies are interested in what is purchased today. These are, for example, the products of the woodworking industry, textile products. There is also interest in the IT sector. Sweden is doing well in the sector. However, it is worth taking a look at what possible cooperation advantages,” the ambassador noted.

According to Christina Johannesson, such a seminar was needed primarily in order to establish more business contacts between Sweden and Belarus. “Swedish companies and Swedish industry do not know well the potential that Belarus has. Belarusian companies could take a more active participation in international fairs and seminars, because this is the only way to introduce yourself. Sweden is also a small country, but we have consciously worked in the international arena for many years,” she said.

The ambassador of Sweden said that she plans to organize trips to the regions of Belarus in the near future. “We have already visited Mogilev Oblast and Gomel Oblast. We are currently in talks with the administration of three more oblasts. We also invite the companies that are present in the country to join these trips,” she said and added that the trips to Mogilev Oblast and Gomel Oblast were fruitful for the representatives of the Swedish business.

The Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry together with the Swedish National Board of Trade (Kommerskollegium) and the support of the Swedish Embassy in Belarus held a seminar on the Specifics of Belarusian exports to Sweden on 5 April. The event was attended by Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vladimir Ulakhovich, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sweden to Belarus Christina Johannesson, experts of the Kommerskollegium, representatives of Belarusian enterprises and organizations.

The seminar focused on the peculiarities of the Swedish market, legal aspects and requirements for exporting products to Sweden and the EU countries, supply channels and consumers’ current preferences. Representatives of Belarusian enterprises held talks with experts of the Kommerskollegium.
