Support for Belarus’ early accession to WTO reaffirmedMINSK, 12 September (BelTA) - Chairman of the WTO Working Party on Belarus’ accession, Permanent Representative of Turkey to the WTO Kemal Madenoglu pointed to the considerable intensification of Belarus’ negotiations and reaffirmed support for the country’s early accession to the WTO as he met with First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Andrei Yevdochenko on 12 September, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The press service said that a Belarusian delegation led by Andrei Yevdochenko is taking part in another round of talks on Belarus’ accession to the WTO in Geneva, Switzerland from 11 to 15 September. The delegation met with Kemal Madenoglu and Officer-in-Charge of the WTO Accessions Division Maika Oshikawa.

The sides exchanged views on the current status of the negotiations on Belarus’ accession to the WTO and discussed the preparations for the ninth session of the working group. They pointed out the progress in Belarus’ accession process, in particular the distribution of the first draft report of the working group and the end of bilateral talks with several WTO member states. Andrei Yevdochenko extended the invitation of Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei to Kemal Madenoglu and members of the WTO Accessions Department to visit Minsk in 2017.

Support for Belarus’ early accession to WTO reaffirmedA market-access protocol was signed with Ecuador in Geneva on the same day. On behalf of the Belarusian government, the document was signed by First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Yevdochenko, on behalf of the Ecuadorian government by Permanent Representative to the WTO Diego Aulestia Valencia. Both sides expressed the hope that Belarus’ accession to the WTO will facilitate the economic and trade cooperation between the two countries and between Ecuador and the Eurasian Economic Union. Ecuador has become the 13th WTO member with which Belarus has concluded bilateral WTO accession talks. On the same day an agreement to complete the market access negotiations by the end of 2017 was reached with El Salvador.
