Sudan wants to cooperate with Belarus in agriculture, manufacturing

MINSK, 2 November (BelTA) – Sudan wants to cooperate with Belarus in the agricultural industry and manufacturing, Abdel-Rahim Mohamed Hussein, Governor of Sudan’s State of Khartum, told reporters before the official meeting at the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee on 2 November, BelTA has learned.

“The visit is aimed at developing cooperation with Belarus,” Abdel-Rahim Mohamed Hussein said. “90% of Sudan’s industry is concentrated in the State of Khartum, it is an important export hub. Sudan is the third biggest country in Africa, it is the leader in terms of agriculture and food production. We have recently had a meeting at the Agriculture and Food Ministry of Belarus, we have agreed on many projects in this sector.”

Animal husbandry is vigorously developing in Sudan. The country is implementing a special program encompassing all sectors ranging from selective breeding to meat processing “Belarus has huge experience and modern technologies, we have necessary natural resources. I think that the cooperation will be productive,” the governor of the State of Khartum concluded.

While in Belarus, the Sudanese guests will also visit a number of enterprises of special interest for them in Minsk Oblast. These include OAO BelAZ – managing company of BelAZ Holding Company, OAO Zdravushka-Milk, the dairy farm Bolshiye Novoselki. Chairman of the Economy Committee at the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee Sergei Zheleznyak said: “Today the relations between Minsk Oblast and Sudan are in the making. We will demonstrate our economic potential. In particular, they are interested in Belarusian heavy dump trucks, the production of milk and dairy products, the export of fruit and vegetables to our country. Today we will make the first step in cooperation at the level of regions.” He specified that this pertains to not only the beginning of mutual trade but also to the establishment of joint ventures, interaction in the housing and utility sector, exchange of experience in various fields.

In January-August 2017, Minsk Oblast imported $6.1 million worth of fruit and vegetables (apples, pears, queen apples, citrus fruit, cabbage, tomatoes, etc.) and $188,800 worth of services from Sudan. Minsk Oblast organizations did not export their products to Sudan in this period, and the export of services exceeded $1 million. The main supplier was ODO Belsnabprom (transport services). The Belarusian clinical hospital of medical rehabilitation has begun the export of healthcare services.
