Speaker: Belarus should voice its position in international parliamentary organizations

Speaker: Belarus should voice its position in international parliamentary organizations
Vladimir Andreichenko

MINSK, 5 March (BelTA) – Belarus’ position should be voiced in the international parliamentary organizations, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the Belarusian National Assembly Vladimir Andreichenko said as he addressed a seminar on the priorities of international parliamentary cooperation in the context of the emerging multipolar world for the Republic of Belarus in Minsk on 5 March, BelTA has learned.

“With a view to strengthening the global regional stability and developing constructive cooperation the MPs need to search for new forms of work and areas of cooperation in international parliamentary organizations and encourage interparliamentary exchange. It is important to voice Minsk’s position in different parts of the world, in international parliamentary organizations, and there are over 70 of them today. It is our image and political weight,” Vladimir Andreichenko said.

According to Vladimir Andreichenko, Belarus’ parliament plays a special role in enhancing the country’s international standing, protecting and promoting its interests on the international arena. “While defending national interests, we should advocate for the spirit of the discussions in international organizations. The parliamentary dialog should be aimed at finding solutions, respecting the opinions and multi-faceted focus rather than sanctions and harsh coercion. In order to strengthen mutual trust and cooperation, we need to step up efforts to promote the president’s initiatives to launch the negotiating process Helsinki-2 and to set up the belt of digital neighborliness,” Vladimir Andreichenko said.

Parliamentary diplomacy is an important part of the full-scale trade and economic cooperation. “When working with foreign colleagues we should facilitate diversification of our supplies to foreign markets. The meetings with public authorities and business representatives of foreign countries are an additional opportunity to help our economic entities with new opportunities,” Vladimir Andreichenko noted.

Attending the seminar were representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Economy Ministry, Belarus’ State Committee for Science and Technology, Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, experts and scholars in international relations.
