Speaker: Belarus attaches great importance to cooperation with OSCE PA

MINSK, 22 January (BelTA) - Belarus attaches great importance to cooperation with the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Chairman of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko said as he met with OSCE Parliamentary Assembly’s Special Representative for Eastern Europe, the head of the Swedish Parliament delegation to the PA Kent Harstedt in Minsk on 22 January, BelTA has learned.

“For my part I would like to say that we attach great importance to cooperation with the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and the OSCE in general, and you know that the Republic of Belarus has been a very responsible member,” the speaker said. He drew attention to the fact that almost all of the sessions of the assembly consider resolutions prepared by the Belarusian side. Just recently the assembly has adopted resolutions on green economy, fight against drugs, trafficking in human beings. Earlier it considered the resolution on Chernobyl. “The most important thing is that all the resolutions proposed by Belarus are unifying in nature. They are not directed against someone. They are aimed at confidence-building, developing multilateral dialogue. It is all done in the name of stability, peace,” Vladimir Andreichenko noted.

The chairman of the House of Representatives said that the Belarusian delegation plans to present its resolutions on combating terrorism, and also on cybersecurity at the next sessions of the OSCE PA in Vienna and Berlin.

The speaker added that Belarus is ready to discuss bilateral relations with Sweden at the meeting.

Kent Harstedt is on a visit to Belarus on 21-24 January. This is his first visit to the country as a special representative. Apart from bilateral meetings, the program also includes visits to the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Hi-Tech Park and the Chinese-Belarusian industrial park Great-Stone.
