Similar views on family values in Belarus, OIC countries

MINSK, 30 March (BelTA) – Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Valentin Rybakov presented the book Belarus and the Muslim World by the Belarusian historian Vladimir Likhodedov in the United Nations Organization HQ in New York, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.

During the presentation Valentin Rybakov mentioned the commonality and harmony of approaches and priorities of Belarus and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation member states in the international scene primarily in areas like family values, religious tolerance, and sustainable development. The Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs said he hopes that the book Belarus and the Muslim World will help the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to learn more about Belarus, the country’s respectful attitude to Muslims and Islam, and the intention to bolster multidimensional mutually beneficial cooperation at the interstate level.

According to the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the presentation took place during the specifically convened meeting of the heads of the diplomatic missions of the OIC member states in the United Nations Organization. Addressing participants of the meeting, Valentin Rybakov pointed out that Muslims have lived in Belarus for quite a long time and Belarusians have built solid traditions of a tolerant and respectful attitude to Islam and the people who embrace the religion.

During the exchange of opinions foreign diplomats expressed support of Belarus’ initiatives and the leading role the country plays in the United Nations Organization in fighting slave trade and defending traditional family values.

Representatives of the OIC member states were handed letters of Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei that call for a more profound understanding of modern Belarus and values of the Belarusians.
