MINSK, 2 September (BelTA) – Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko took part in the parade to mark the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam as a guest of honor on behalf of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, BelTA learned from the press service of the House of Representatives.

Hanoi hosted its largest parade in decades, with tens of thousands of flag-waving spectators lining the capital’s streets.

The event showcased Vietnam’s most advanced military hardware, from tanks and missiles to helicopters and jet fighters. Thousands of soldiers marched in columns, joined by contingents from China, Russia, and other nations. The display of power extended to the sea, where the Vietnamese fleet sailed in formation through the deep waters of Cam Ranh Bay.

“We are unwavering in our determination to defend the independence, freedom, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of our motherland down to every sacred inch of land,” declared General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam. He made this solemn pledge at a parade in Ba Dinh Square, the very site where Ho Chi Minh declared independence on 2 September 1945. That historic proclamation marked the success of the August Revolution, liberating Vietnam from Japanese occupation and nearly a century of French colonial rule, and established the democratic republic.

Igor Sergeyenko laid a wreath at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum in Hanoi on behalf of Belarusian deputies.

Constructed from gray marble, the two-story Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum houses the body of Vietnam’s first president within a transparent sarcophagus on its upper level. The entrance is guarded around the clock by a military honor guard and features a marble slab engraved with his iconic declaration: “Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom”.

A visit to the mausoleum is an essential part of the itinerary for all foreign delegations. The surrounding Ba Dinh Square, where the mausoleum is located, serves as the venue for parades, ceremonial processions, and other events commemorating significant national dates. The mausoleum itself was designed and constructed with the assistance of Soviet specialists.
