Senators ratify Belarus-Tajikistan agreement on mutual trade promotion

MINSK, 30 January (BelTA) – Senators ratified the bill “On ratification of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Belarus and the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan on the Mutual Trade Promotion System” at the sitting of the tenth session of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the seventh convocation on 30 January, BelTA has learned.

“In order to develop bilateral cooperation between Belarus and Tajikistan in the customs sector, eliminate unnecessary administrative barriers, accelerate mutual trade, an agreement between the Government of the Republic of Belarus and the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan on the mutual trade promotion system, signed in Dushanbe on 11 October 2022 in the presence of the presidents of both countries,” Vladimir Orlovsky, Chairman of the State Customs Committee, said presenting the bill to senators.

The agreement defines the basic principles for transmitting information about the movement of goods and means of transport in accordance with technical conditions for the exchange of information between the customs authorities of the two countries, the national legislation of Belarus and Tajikistan, norms, standards and recommendations of the United Nations, the World Customs Organization, and also international best practices for information exchange.

“The customs service of Belarus will see all the information about the clearance in Tajikistan of exports to our country. And vice versa,” Vladimir Orlovsky explained. “In this regard, participants of foreign economic activities of Belarus and Tajikistan will have a number of advantages in the customs sector. In particular, the agreement will make it possible to implement the priority order of customs operations and simplify customs formalities.”

“The main objectives of the document are, on the one hand, to improve the quality of customs administration, and, on the other hand, to simplify customs procedures for importers. This agreement is especially relevant in the context of sanctions pressure on the Republic of Belarus by unfriendly countries,” the chairman of the State Customs Committee added. “The agreement will help increase and accelerate the supply of goods from Tajikistan to Belarus. First of all, these are fruits and vegetables to replace the supplies from the Western countries. This will help the domestic market to be more effectively saturated with goods of adequate quality and, most importantly, at affordable prices.”

Under the agreement, the customs authorities of Belarus and Tajikistan will exchange information on the movement of goods and vehicles as part of the mutual trade promotion system.
