MINSK, 22 December (BelTA) - Senators passed an address to MEPs over the unfounded statements on Belarus as the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly held the sixth session, BelTA has learned.

The text of the address was read out by Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic Sergei Rachkov.

"Parliamentarians of European countries have expressed, with senseless persistence, concern over the situation in Belarus while disregarding major problems of their countries and peoples. We resolutely reject and condemn the fact that Belarus is discussed on the basis of outright fakes and false information supplied by people who call for sanctions thus betraying their homeland - the Republic of Belarus. We categorically reject the allegations about Belarus’ involvement in the engineering of the migrant crisis on the border with the European Union," the address reads.

Senators assert that Belarus is not the cause and source of this problem. "People are fleeing war and poverty in the Middle East. You, European politicians, have promised these refugees a better life. Belarusian senators, unlike MEPs, know firsthand the situation at the border. Since day one, the Council of the Republic has been helping these disadvantaged people. Acceptable conditions have been created for them, and the situation is kept under control,” the document said. “The Polish leadership has crossed many red lines with regard to refugees, overstepped the boundaries of common sense and morality. This is confirmed by the story of a Polish serviceman who is seeking political asylum in Belarus. Poland’s criminal actions against migrants on the border have been thoroughly documented by Belarusian law enforcement agencies. We will not keep silent about it. All materials will be forwarded to international and inter-parliamentary organizations.”

The statement stresses: “We have called upon European MPs and officials to hear the truth about the migrant crisis, Belarus’ position, and we have demanded not to violate international law. They do not hear us. We appeal on them once again to stop spreading false information about the Republic of Belarus, interfering in our internal affairs and creating a dangerous situation for regional security, which does not meet the interests of any European country, including the Republic of Belarus.
