Russia’s Federation Council delegation to visit Belarus on 5-6 March

MINSK, 27 February (BelTA) – A delegation of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia led by Speaker Valentina Matviyenko is expected to pay an official visit to Belarus on 5-6 March, BelTA learned from the press service of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus.

On 5 March, Valentina Matviyenko is set to meet with Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova. The one-on-one talks will be followed by a meeting with the delegations of the two countries. On this day the speakers of the upper houses of parliaments will take part in a meeting of the organizing committee of the 7th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia. Valentina Matviyenko is also expected to meet with Chairman of the House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko.

While in Minsk, Valentina Matviyenko will lay a wreath at the Minsk Hero City Memorial and attend a ceremony to hand over a capsule with soil from the burial sites of Soviet soldiers near Rzhev to the Church of All Saints in Minsk as part of the international campaign To the Glory of the Shared Victory.

On 6 March, Valentina Matviyenko and Natalya Kochanova will visit the Brest Hero Fortress Memorial to meet with veterans of the Great Patriotic War.

In autumn Minsk and Minsk Oblast will host events of the 7th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia. The main theme of the forthcoming forum will be the historical heritage of the Great Victory as the foundation for the development of social, economic and spiritual ties between the peoples of Belarus and Russia.
