Russia reaffirms support for Belarus’ anti-human trafficking initiatives

MOSCOW, 27 July (BelTA) – Russia consistently supports Belarus’ initiatives to combat human trafficking, spokeswoman for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova said at a briefing ahead of the 2026 World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, proclaimed by the UN General Assembly and observed on 30 July, BelTA has learned.

“Russia consistently supports the initiatives of Belarusian partners aimed at consolidating efforts within the UN system to combat human trafficking. We have been among the co-founders of the Belarus-proposed UN General Assembly resolution Improving the coordination of efforts against trafficking in persons. The latest resolution was adopted on 18 December 2025. In close coordination with Belarus, we are also among the co-authors of relevant resolutions in the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ),” Maria Zakharova said.

She emphasized that Russia supports the Group of Friends United against Human Trafficking, established at Belarus’ initiative. “We consider it important to continue working together in this area, which serves our shared interests in combating human trafficking,” Maria Zakharova noted.

She stressed that the need to combat this global problem and strengthen international cooperation to prevent and suppress such crimes is more relevant than ever. “We believe it is important to preserve the UN’s leading role in coordinating the efforts of international and national institutions involved in combating human trafficking. We view this appalling phenomenon as multifaceted, encompassing not only the buying and selling of people but also various forms of exploitation, forced labor, and the degradation of human dignity,” she said.
