Russia, Belarus to extend number of flights to three a week

MOSCOW, 14 October (BelTA) – The number of flights between Russia and Belarus en route Moscow-Minsk will be increased to three a week on a mutual basis. The decision was taken by the Russian Emergency Operations Center to stop COVID-19 spread, BelTA has learned.

Air traffic between Russia and Belarus was resumed on 21 September: one flight a week was authorized on a mutual basis. Since late September, national carriers Belavia and Aeroflot have operated one flight a week between the capitals of the two countries.

From 1 November, Russia also plans to resume air travel with Japan, flights will be carried out three times a week: two Moscow-Tokyo flights and one Vladivostok-Tokyo flight. The Russian government has decided to resume air communication with Serbia and Cuba. Flights from Moscow to Belgrade will be operated twice a week, flights from Moscow to Cayo Coco and from Moscow to Santa Clara - twice a week.

Russia has also decided to increase the number of flights to Switzerland, the Maldives and the UAE.

Russia stopped air communication with foreign countries in late March due to the coronavirus pandemic. The gradual restoration of foreign flights began in August.
