Romania interested in Gomel Oblast economic practices

GOMEL, 12 April (BelTA) – Romania has an interest in exploring Gomel Oblast’s experience in industry, agribusiness, and forestry, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Belarus Viorel Mosanu told BelTA following a meeting with Gomel Oblast Governor Vladimir Dvornik.

“I went to Gomel to learn more about the region’s potential and find specific fields where we could continue our bilateral cooperation. Romania is interest in studying Gomel Oblast’s experience in industry, agribusiness, and forestry. This is the basis of your region,” the ambassador said. He stressed Romania and Gomel Oblast need to map out a range of practical matters to be solved, namely how to find partners and how to help them contact with each other. “Our mutual interest needs to be more specific,” the diplomat added.

Viorel Mosanu discussed economic and social cooperation as well as ways to boost trade as he met with the governor. In his words, he was impressed with the local woods. “When I talked with the governor, we came up with an idea to organize a meeting between representatives of the forestry industry of Romania and Gomel Oblast,” the ambassador remarked.

Vladimir Dvornik, in turn, stressed the need to develop interregional relations. “We need to expand interregional cooperation in order to boost trade. This kind of relations provides for the biggest payoff in economy and social and cultural life,” he believes.

The Romanian ambassador also has meetings with Gomel authorities, the Gomel branch of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the free economic zone Gomel-Raton, and visited industrial companies.

Gomel Oblast-Romania trade made up $3.8 million in January-February 2018, up 12.2$ versus the same period of last year. Exports stood at $3.6 million. The major exports were ferrous metals (65.6%), chemical fertilizers (11.4%), glass (8.6%), gases (4.6%), chemical fibers (3%), and wood processing products (2.2%). In 2017, Gomel Oblast mainly imported from Romania pump parts, medicines, tires, controllers, and electronic automation equipment.
