Rigoni: PACE satisfied with hearing on Belarus

STRASBOURG, 22 April (BelTA) - PACE was satisfied with the hearing in the Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy on the situation in Belarus held on 21 April, PACE rapporteur on Belarus Andrea Rigoni told Belarusian journalists, BelTA has learnt.

We are satisfied because we had an opportunity to see what was happening in Belarus. We met with representatives of the authorities and the opposition. They presented their views. We want this democratic debate, we want to hear all the views so that the Committee could take a decision on the basis of the available information, said Andrea Rigoni.

As for possible future meetings with representatives of the Belarusian side, Andrea Rigoni said that if the relevant conditions are in place, the cooperation will continue. He also did not rule out that he may visit Belarus before the presidential election.

As was reported, Andrea Rigoni visited Belarus in February 2015. He met with the Parliament Speakers, the heads of the Ministries of Justice, Foreign Affairs and Information, the Constitutional Court, the head of the EU delegation in Belarus, and with representatives of the civil society, the Orthodox Church and the opposition.
