Putin comments on reasons to advance integration between Belarus, Russia

MINSK, 4 November (BelTA) - Belarus and Russia are setting a good example for their partners in the post-Soviet space, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State on 4 November, BelTA has learned.

Pooling efforts is one of the ways to overcome a crisis for the neighboring countries that cooperate of both in economy as a whole and in individual sectors, Vladimir Putin noted.

“Unfortunately, the post Soviet Union countries are lagging behind in many areas of integration. We fail to make the full use of the opportunities and competitive advantages that we got back from the time of the Soviet Union. I mean the common infrastructure, energy, the Russian language, which is a unifying factor allowing us to communicate easily with each other. But in the Union State, we have advanced further than on other tracks. Thus, we are setting a good example for our partners in the EAEU and other associations in the post-Soviet space, "the Russian leader noted.

Russia expects that all the agreements reached and formalized at the meeting of the Supreme State Council will be implemented. “This is a major step forward. It has absolutely nothing to do with the internal political agendas in our countries. It is simply about the need to ensure effective functioning of our economies and to create competitive advantages in order to make our work more efficient, which ultimately means better living standards of our citizens” Vladimir Putin said.
