MINSK, 6 July (BelTA) – The state and prospects of advancing Belarus’ relations with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) were discussed as Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei met with Andrea Rigoni, Rapporteur on Belarus of the PACE Political Affairs and Democracy Committee, on 6 July, BelTA has learned. Andrea Rigoni is in Belarus for the sake of taking part in the 26th annual session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE PA).
In particular, Vladimir Makei spoke in negative terms about several provisions of the report recently adopted by the PACE to describe the situation in Belarus. At the same time he was pleased with the possibility of stepping up contacts between the Belarusian parliament and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe that the document mentions.
The press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also said that Vladimir Makei met with Karl-Georg Wellmann, a member of the German-Belarusian parliamentary group in the German parliament. The sides discussed prospects of invigorating Belarusian-German interparliamentary cooperation, the advancement of the Belarus-EU dialogue, the current state of affairs in the region, and the possibility of implementing Karl-Georg Wellmann’s initiative to start producing electric vehicles in Belarus.
Vladimir Makei also met with Speaker of the Montenegro parliament Ivan Brajovic. The sides discussed prospects of advancing bilateral cooperation, including the expansion of the interparliamentary dialogue, as well as matters of international politics of mutual interest.
