Prime minister awards over 190 outstanding Belarusians

MINSK, 10 April (BelTA) – Prime Minister of Belarus Sergei Rumas presented state awards to over 190 outstanding Belarusians on 10 April. The solemn ceremony took place in the Palace of the Republic, BelTA has learned.

The state awards were presented upon instructions of the head of state to the best representatives of the country’s work collectives for many years of fruitful work, outstanding professionalism, and impeccable execution of official duties.

The awardees included agriculture specialists, healthcare workers, scientists, professors and teachers, construction workers, industry workers, transport industry specialists, energy industry workers, civil servants, tax service officers, creative intellectuals, and representatives of public associations. “Every one of you has made his or her contribution to the development of independent and prosperous Belarus,” Sergei Rumas noted.

While awarding agriculture workers, the Belarusian head of government pointed out that every year agriculture generates more than 7% of Belarus’ gross domestic product and accounts 15% of the country’s total merchandise export. Agriculture employs about 300,000 people or 8% of the total number of working Belarusians.

The prime minister said: “Enabling conditions for further strategic development of agriculture is a strategic goal of the government policy. The accomplishment of this goal will contribute to the formation of the competitive environment, the introduction of new production and management technologies as well as to higher living standards and better quality of life of people living in rural areas.”

Manufacturing sector and energy industry workers were awarded. Accomplishments of the construction workers, who built a national clinical medical center in Zhdanovichi, Minsk District, were praised.

Letters of thanks from the head of state were presented to construction workers, who reconstructed a broken automobile bridge over the Pripyat River in Zhitkovichi District. “In addition to accomplishing complicated tasks within a short period of time they acquired invaluable experience. Turov is the place where I grew up. When I visit the town, I feel what you did for the locals. Once again I would like to thank you for a job well done,” Sergei Rumas noted.

Employees of the Belarusian air carrier Belavia were also awarded. According to the head of government, the company accomplished a lot in the last few years, with flights being offered to more and more destinations and the aircraft fleet being constantly renewed. In 2018 Belavia transported 3 million passengers, 15% up from 2017.

The awardees also included tax service officials, scientists, and education workers. Representatives of the public association Belarusian Union of Afghanistan War Veterans received state awards for their contribution to public activities and to the development of the veteran movement.

Mass media specialists received state awards as a commendation of their professional skills. The number included BelTA employees. Editor-in-Chief of BelTA’s Publishing House Galina Golovataya and the lead press photographer of the Photo Information Department of BelTA’s Visual Information Editorial Office Leonid Shcheglov were awarded Medals of Francysk Skaryna. Editor of the English Translation Department of BelTA’s External Communications Center Natalya Kovalevskaya was awarded a Medal for Labor Services.

Sergei Rumas said: “Reporters and mass media play an extremely important role in the modern world. You are always where events happen. The way Belarusian citizens see the world depends on your professionalism, objectivity, and unbiased coverage.”

Representatives of the creative intelligentsia also earned state awards. “The state will continue supporting talented and gifted Belarusians. Particularly those, who glorify our country and inspire millions,” the head of government underlined.
