Prerequisites in place for overcoming Belarus-Russia trade recession

Prerequisites in place for overcoming Belarus-Russia trade recession

MOSCOW, 26 January (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia have all the prerequisites for overcoming the mutual trade recession caused by consequences of the pandemic in 2021. Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko made the statement during negotiations with Prime Minister of Russia Mikhail Mishustin in Moscow on 26 January, BelTA has learned.

Roman Golovchenko said: “Despite all the complications Russia is traditionally the largest partner of our country: Russia’s share in Belarus’ foreign trade totaled 44% in January-November 2020. The mutual trade has not critically dropped despite the COVID-19-related complications you’ve mentioned. Although certainly we’ve lost about 20% of the common volume. I believe prerequisites are available this year for overcoming the decline. The situation is absolutely manageable. We have considerable reserves in the production sector, agriculture, and civil engineering. This is why direct goal-oriented contacts are a priority task for the government, the relevant agencies, and commercial entities of our countries in current conditions.”

Roman Golovchenko stressed that Russia is the closest partner and ally, the sides have an extensive and positive bilateral agenda. “There are very many common challenges and a saturated cooperation agenda within the framework of the Union State of Belarus and Russia,” he stated.

“It is obvious to all the unbiased observers that thanks to the interaction that constructively evolves between the leaders, the heads of state, the heads of government we resolve all issues in an absolutely constructive manner,” Roman Golovchenko stressed.

The Belarusian head of government mentioned the successful launch of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. He described it as the largest integration project of the decade that had been implemented on mutually beneficial terms. “Systemic agreements have been reached on the participation of industrial goods in central government purchases and municipal purchases. Problems with the access of Belarusian agricultural products to the Russian market have been primarily resolved. Good interaction has been established in introducing the marking and traceability of goods,” Roman Golovchenko recounted.

Among the tasks of current interest that the two governments will have to work on this year Roman Golovchenko mentioned search for systemic solutions on the common energy markets of the Union State of Belarus and Russia and the Eurasian Economic Union. The regulation of systemic aspects of merchandise access to the common market was also mentioned. “We should have tackled a most important matter of the Union State products and services a long time ago,” the prime minister of Belarus stated.
