Preparations for next forum of regions of Belarus, Russia discussed

SAINT PETERSBURG, 13 October (BelTA) – Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich met with Vice Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia Yuri Vorobyev on 13 October. The sides discussed preparations for the Fifth Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly in Saint Petersburg, BelTA has learned.

In particular, Mikhail Myasnikovich pointed out that the next forum of regions of Belarus and Russia will take place in Mogilev in 2018. The city will play host to the main meetings and negotiations within the framework of the forum but some of the events are also supposed to take place in district capitals 20-40km away from Mogilev.

According to Mikhail Myasnikovich, Russia’s Bryansk Oblast and Smolensk Oblast should play an active part in the next year’s forum. The official noted he would like to see not only the heads of the executive and legislative branches of power from these regions at the forum but other people, too. The next year’s forum will feature a cultural, entertainment, and sport program, which is supposed to spice up the intensive economic agenda, added Mikhail Myasnikovich.

In turn, Yuri Vorobyev assured Mikhail Myasnikovich that in the course of preparations for the forum he stays constantly in touch with Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia Valentina Matviyenko and all the emerging issues are promptly resolved.

It was also noted that Belarus and Russia should unify legislation on economic and scientific affairs. Mikhail Myasnikovich and Yuri Vorobyev concluded that it is necessary to find a way to agree some legal acts at the interparliamentary level. The accomplishment will contribute to the advancement of cooperation.

The Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia has been held every year since 2014. The latest forum took place in Moscow in June 2017.
