Preparation for Belarus-India highest-level visits discussed in Minsk

MINSK, 11 January (BelTA) – Belarus and India have discussed preparation for visits at the high and highest levels scheduled for 2019, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This matter was on the agenda of the meeting between Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Andrei Dapkiunas and India’s Ambassador to Belarus Sangeeta Bahadur. The parties discussed topical issues on the bilateral and international agenda, including ways to strengthen global and regional security, non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and fight against terrorism.

The Belarusian deputy foreign minister and the Indian ambassador noted that the two countries have a history of friendly relations and constructive cooperation. Andrei Dapkiunas emphasized the importance of an inclusive and continuous dialogue and cooperation within the framework of multilateral forums and mechanisms with a view to strengthening the global nuclear non-proliferation regime. In this context he drew attention to a significant role of the regional dimension of international security, including in South Asia and Europe, as an important factor of maintaining global security and strategic stability.

Andrei Dapkiunas and Sangeeta Bahadur agreed to keep working to facilitate and promote bilateral trade and economic projects, including in pharmaceutics and textile industry.

The parties also touched upon humanitarian cooperation and ways to ease visa regulations. Andrei Dapkiunas expressed hope that Belarusian nationals will soon be able to apply for electronic Indian visas. They also discussed a possibility to launch direct flights between Minsk and New Delhi.
