MINSK, 6 December (BelTA) - The complementarity of the economies of Belarus and the UAE is a favorable factor for the development of trade and economic cooperation, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said in his greetings to the leadership and people of the United Arab Emirates as the country celebrates National Day. An official reception was held on this occasion at the UAE embassy in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

“Since its formation 51 years ago, the United Arab Emirates has become an example to the world of how to effectively utilize domestic opportunities for comprehensive development and integrate harmoniously into the global economy, while maintaining its unique, distinctive features, traditions of culture and statehood. Known for its friendly attitude to all nations and cultures, as well as ample business opportunities, the UAE continues to be a donor of peace, security, and a place of attraction not only for tourists but also for businessmen from all over the world during the current political turbulence,” said Roman Golovchenko.

According to him, the international exhibition EXPO, the first one in the Middle East, was a success in the spring of 2022. The leader of the UAE, with the support of EXPO member states, including Belarus, held this grand event despite serious difficulties due to COVID-19 restrictions and a complex global economic situation.

“Keeping in mind the start of active preparations for the 28th UN Climate Change Conference in the United Arab Emirates in 2023, I would like to assure our Emirati partners of Belarus' readiness to fully support the event, as well as other creative initiatives of the UAE within the framework of the United Nations and other international platforms,” the Belarusian head of government said.

According to Roman Golovchenko, the current head of the UAE - Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan - continues the work of the founders of the United Arab Emirates who proclaimed peace-loving policy and creation of the most favorable conditions for the prosperity of the country and its residents.

“We are convinced that sincere and open relations between the leaders of our countries will further contribute to the development of mutually beneficial cooperation between Belarus and the UAE,” he stressed.

Speaking about the bilateral relations between the two countries, the prime minister noted the steadily growing, mutual interest of Belarusian and Emirati businesses. “The complementarity of the economies of our countries is a favorable factor for trade and economic cooperation. I am pleased to note a significant increase in foreign trade this year. It is necessary to maintain the achieved dynamics and ensure further increase in trade,” he stressed.

According to the Belarusian head of government, Belarus not only seeks to use the capacity of the UAE market to export goods and services but also uses the transport and logistics advantages of supplying its products from the UAE to the Middle East and Africa. “We are counting on counter initiatives of the Emirati business as well,” Roman Golovchenko added.

The Northern Waterfront, a flagship investment project with the participation of the Emirati capital is under implementation in Belarus. The prime minister assured the Emirati side in further comprehensive support of the project by the Belarusian government. “I am confident that we can build on this success and implement joint projects in other areas, including agriculture, industry, tourism, and healthcare,” he said.

At the end of his speech Roman Golovchenko quoted the founder of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who once said: ‘We feel like people who have climbed to the top of a mountain. But when we cast our eyes to its foot, we want to climb even higher and reach new heights. That is why, despite our achievements, we continue to strive for more.’ I believe that these wise words of the great man should also be a motto for the Belarusian-Emirati relations. We should not rest on our laurels, we have to develop our mutually beneficial cooperation and multiply its results, the prime minister added.
