Parliaments of Belarus, Serbia to develop roadmap for cooperation

MINSK, 10 June (BelTA) – Belarus and Serbia agreed to work out and sign a roadmap for parliamentary cooperation, Speaker of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich told media after signing a memorandum of cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries on 9 June, BelTA informs.

Mikhail Myasnikovich noted that the bilateral talks were fruitful. “Our inter-parliamentary commissions will work on the agreement we have signed today. They will turn it into a so-called roadmap which the heads of the parliaments will be able to sign next time. The next meeting will take place in Belgrade,” the Chairman of the Council of the Republic said. In his words, the group on cooperation with Serbian counterparts in the Belarusian parliament is led by experienced diplomat, chairman of the permanent commission for international affairs and national security of the National Assembly Vladimir Senko.

“We have put a lot of time into the development of the legal framework,” Mikhail Myasnikovich stressed. He explained that the matter among other things concerns the legislative support of the bilateral cooperation. It is needed since the two countries have been taking their relations onto a new level. Investment protection in this respect is of current interest, too. According to Mikhail Myasnikovich, the parliaments should assist economic cooperation. Besides, the countries should develop political and inter-parliamentary contacts.

It is also important for the Council of the Republic as a chamber of regional representation that the talks with the Serbian party highlighted interregional cooperation. “We have discussed some details in part of agreements that will be developed at the regional level,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said.
