Parliaments of Belarus, Germany set to strengthen cooperation

MINSK, 1 March (BelTA) – The parliaments of Belarus and Germany are set to intensify their cooperation. The plans were the focus of talks between Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich and Deputy Chairman of the Belarus-Germany group in the German parliament Johann David Wadephul on 1 March, BelTA has learned.

Mikhail Myasnikovich noted that the Belarusian side is glad that the ties between the National Assembly and the German Bundestag have been bolstered. Previously, the interaction was conducted mostly through special rapporteurs on Belarus appointed by the Council of Europe or other interparliamentary bodies of the united Europe, Mikhail Myasnikovich said. “We are not against contacts with such respected international organizations, but I believe that direct dialogue is more effective. Especially with Germany that is playing a key role in the united Europe,” Mikhail Myasnikovich emphasized.

Johann David Wadephul told reporters that the Belarus-Germany parliamentary group is holding fruitful talks in Minsk with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and MPs. “We are very much interested in strengthening the relations between Belarus and Germany. We would like to intensify our ties,” Johann David Wadephul noted.

Mikhail Myasnikovich and Johann David Wadephul discussed different aspects of the bilateral relations, including ways to attract more German businessmen to Belarus.
