Pantus: Belarus plans to increase domestic weapons share by 2030

MINSK, 11 May (BelTA) - The Armed Forces are keen to acquire the most advanced weaponry, and the domestic defense industry is working to deliver it, Chairman of the Belarusian State Authority for Military Industry Dmitry Pantus told journalists following a meeting with the head of state on 11 May, BelTA has learned.

The meeting with the president focused on the drafts of the State Armament Program for 2026–2030 and the State Defense Procurement Prorgam for 2026. A separate issue was the fourth missile-building program of Belarus. “On all of these fronts, we had a very fruitful discussion. Various issues were discussed and opinions were expressed on them,” Dmitry Pantus noted.

The meeting outlined the things to focus on in the future. “Our Armed Forces are interested in acquiring the most advanced weaponry, and we are working on it,” he said. “Within the framework of the new, already fourth, missile-building program, we have planned very significant measures, concerning both the modernization of the domestically made and foreign-made systems currently in service and the development of new types of missiles, ammunition, and new systems.” Dmitry Pantus added that discussions also covered a new short-range surface-to-air missile system of domestic production.

“By 2030, we are planning to significantly increase the share of domestically produced types of weaponry both within the framework of the state defense procurement program and the state armament program. We will also work to reduce the production timelines for these items, not only in the interests of the Armed Forces but also of other military formations,” Dmitry Pantus noted.

The head of the Belarusian State Authority for Military Industry noted that the president pays special attention to a prudent approach in weapons production: ‘We don't need to chase after some kind of ultra-drones, because it's an endless battle, I mean electronic warfare and drones. As a priority, we are developing and producing what is actually necessary. We must always find the golden mean.” Dmitry Pantus also emphasized that it is necessary to think not only about equipping the army with the most advanced systems but also about training personnel to operate them.
