Package of documents signed following CIS summit in Dushanbe

DUSHANBE, 10 October (BelTA) – Leaders of the CIS countries signed a package of documents following the CIS summit in Dushanbe, BelTA has learned.

The heads of state approved decisions to establish a CIS Plus format and grant the Shanghai Cooperation Organization observer status within the CIS. The CIS Plus format will serve as a platform for cooperation between CIS countries and other states, associations, and international organizations interested in engaging with the CIS in areas of mutual interest.

Among the documents adopted at the summit was the declaration on cooperation in ensuring regional energy security, which provides a strategic foundation for developing relations among member states in this area.

The summit also adopted the concept of military cooperation of CIS member states until 2030, a cooperation program to strengthen border security along the external frontiers for 2026-2030, a cooperation program to counter terrorism and extremism, and a number of other documents.

Other decisions and statements adopted included joint declarations to mark the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations and the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear accident.

By decision of the CIS leaders, Sergei Lebedev was appointed CIS Secretary General for the next three years.

The heads of state also resolved to terminate a number of multilateral agreements previously concluded within the CIS.
