MINSK, 6 December (BelTA) – Belarusian university students, who will become nuclear industry specialists in the future, get on-the-job training in Russia and Europe. More details about personnel training for the nuclear energy industry were revealed by representatives of the relevant universities during the online conference hosted by the BelTA website on 6 December.

The Belarusian State University, the Belarusian National Technical University, the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics train personnel for the nuclear energy industry. These universities boast well-equipped labs, special smart simulators, the necessary textbooks, and teaching materials.

Their professors opt for advanced training at foreign nuclear centers. For instance, the Belarusian National Technical University sends its professors for advanced training to the IAEA, the national nuclear research university MEPhI in Moscow, the Nizhny Novgorod Technical University, and other places. An internship at the French company Areva was organized in the past. Two professors have been certified by the Saint Petersburg Energy Industry Advanced Training Institute this year. Belarusian universities also invite leading specialists from foreign universities. For instance, the Belarusian State University welcomes specialists from the national nuclear research university MEPhI, the Obninsk Nuclear Energy Institute, and the Ivanovo State Power Engineering University.

As part of their education Belarusian university students are offered internships, including outside the country. Nikolai Karnitsky, Head of the Heat Power Plants Chair of the Belarusian National Technical University, said that at his university students are offered on-the-job training at operating nuclear power plants among other things such as the Smolensk nuclear power plant, the Kalinin nuclear power plant, the Rostov nuclear power plant, and the Novovoronezh nuclear power plant. Every year four students are sent to the Nizhny Novgorod Technical University for undergraduate training. In 2016 Belarusian students were sent to the IAEA’s Nuclear Knowledge Management Institute in Vienna, Austria. This year five students have enjoyed on-the-job training at the Mochovce nuclear power plant in Slovakia.

Nuclear energy students of the Belarusian State University are offered internships at the national nuclear research university MEPhI in Moscow, the Nizhny Novgorod Technical University, the Ivanovo State Power Engineering University, the STAR-NET regional network in Vienna, and the Kalinin nuclear power plant. “The level of knowledge the graduates get is very high. Many of them seek post-graduate education. Two such students will work at the Belarusian State University later on,” noted Viktor Anishchik, Dean of the Physics Department of the Belarusian State University.

According to Yelena Zhivitskaya, Prorector for Education of the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics, her university’s students are offered on-the-job training at the Nuclear Knowledge Management Institute in Vienna, the All-Russia Automatics Research Institute (VNIIA), the national nuclear research university MEPhI in Moscow, the Joint Nuclear Research Institute in Dubna, Russia, the nuclear power plants in Rostov and Kalinin, and the Minsk-based company Atomtech.

Work is in progress to send Belarusian students for on-the-job training to the Kozloduy nuclear power plant in Bulgaria.

Representatives of the Belarusian universities noted that it is quite feasible for their graduates to get jobs at the Belarusian nuclear power plant upon graduation. As far as the adaptation system is concerned, upon graduation young specialists are supposed to go through the Belarusian nuclear power plant’s education and training center.
