New UNDP Resident Representative in Belarus assumes office

MINSK, 25 April (BelTA) – Alexandra Solovieva has assumed office as the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Belarus, BelTA learned from the UNDP in Belarus press service.

In this role Alexandra Solovieva will strengthen the strategic partnership of UNDP and Belarus within the UN development system reform and will contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals by the country.

Alexandra Solovieva has considerable experience in sustainable and regional development. Previously she headed the external relations and public communications department at the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) Program where she promoted innovative volunteer solutions as means to achieve the 2030 Agenda. She was also also in charge of five global UNV programs and regional offices in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean.

UNDP is one of Belarus’ key partners in the implementation of international technical assistance projects. The UNDP country portfolio includes 13 projects that are in sync with the national development priorities and global goals, with a total budget of $40.2 million.

In 2015, the UN member states adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development which includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The Agenda includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which are a commitment to eradicate poverty, inequality and injustice, prevent climate change. The 2030 Agenda is a comprehensive strategy to improve people’s lives and to ensure the development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Belarus is working to achieve all 17 SDGs.
