New Israeli ambassador to arrive in Belarus in summer 2016

MINSK, 11 April (BelTA) – The new Israeli ambassador will arrive in Belarus in summer 2016, Charge d’Affaires ad Interim of Israel in Belarus Yulia Rachinski-Spivakov told journalists on 11 April, BelTA has learned.

“The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs is currently considering candidates. The arrival is scheduled for mid to late summer 2016,” Yulia Rachinski-Spivakov noted.

The diplomat added that the functions of the Israeli Embassy in Belarus will remain the same. Besides, it will coordinate some other countries as a result of the decision to close Israeli diplomatic missions there. “The embassy will be responsible only for operations in Belarus, the same as it was before. We continue working in the same format,” Yulia Rachinski-Spivakov stressed.

She said that the decision of the Israeli side to keep its diplomatic mission in Belarus, the introduction of visa-free travel between the two countries, and some other factors have contributed to the decision to organize the Days of Israeli Culture in Belarus that will run from 18 April till 19 May. A number of exhibitions and cultural events will be held in the Belarusian cities of Minsk, Brest, Grodno, and Vitebsk as part of the Days of Culture. The visit of renowned Israeli writer Etgar Keret will open the cultural campaign.

Some of the events will be quite unusual. For example, a series of lectures about Israel will be given at a cafe. “Entry to all events will be free of charge,” the diplomat pointed out.
