New group of Zimbabwean students to study economics, medicine in Belarus

MINSK, 26 August (BelTA) – Training qualified personnel for the Zimbabwean economy at Belarus’ higher education institutions is key to developing the long-term relationship between the two countries, Belarusian Ambassador to Zimbabwe Yuri Nikolaichik said during an event marking the departure of a new group of Zimbabwean students to Belarusian universities, the Belarusian embassy in Zimbabwe told BelTA.
Belarus and Zimbabwe continue to strengthen their educational cooperation, marked by the arrival of a new influx of Zimbabwean youth joining the growing student community in Belarus. At the invitation of Maureen Meda, Director General of the Satco Academic Trust Colleges educational association, the Belarusian ambassador attended a special ceremony organized by the institution. The diplomats were the guests of honor at a meeting between the association’s management, parents, and the students heading to Belarus. Yuri Nikolaichik emphasized that talent training for Zimbabwe’s economy remains a cornerstone of bilateral cooperation. The future students underwent a strict selection process in Zimbabwe, ensuring they are fully prepared to tackle demanding programs in key engineering, economics, and medical fields.
The diplomat expressed confidence that during their studies, the students would not only receive a high-quality education but also develop a genuine love for Belarus, becoming bridge-builders and goodwill ambassadors between the two nations. During the event, both sides also reaffirmed their readiness to expand the range of academic programs available to Zimbabwean citizens in the future.
The head of the Belarusian diplomatic mission also met with the departing students directly before their flight at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport in Harare, wishing them academic success and a smooth transition to life in Belarus.
