New agriculture minister appointed in Belarus

New agriculture minister appointed in Belarus

MINSK, 2 April (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has appointed Anatoly Khotko Agriculture and Food Minister, BelTA has learned.

The head of state said that he made the decision taking into account Anatoly Khotko’s work experience in the agricultural sector and his expertise in cattle breeding. “All your career is connected with animal husbandry. You have majored in agriculture. As I was briefed, you were doing pretty well at the previous post. Keeping in mind your expertise and the problems we have in agriculture today, I decided to appoint you to the post of agriculture and food minister,” the president said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko also outlined the issues for the new minister to focus on. “You know that crop production is well-developed in the country. As for cattle breeding which means the production of milk and meat, we have a lot of problems here. If cattle breeding is poor, there is no need in plant industry,” the president said. The head of state urged the new minister to focus on the development of animal husbandry in the first place.

Anatoly Khotko was born in the village of Buda-Gresskaya, Slutsk District, Minsk Oblast in 1974. He graduated from the Belarusian Agricultural Academy in 1996 and the Academy of Public Administration under the aegis of the President of the Republic of Belarus in 2006.

Anatoly Khotko worked as chief livestock manager at a number of farms, was deputy chairman for animal husbandry at Krinitsa farm in Kopyl District, Minsk Oblast, and deputy head of the agriculture and food department of the Borisov District Executive Committee. In 2006-2007, Anatoly Khotko worked as deputy director general at Minskoblkhlebprodukt and then as director general of the company. In 2015-2016, he was deputy director general of the Belarusian state association on livestock breeding Belplemzhivobyedinenie. In 2016 he was appointed director general of this association.
