Myasnikovich: Unified legislation should secure integration in the Eurasian Economic Union

MOSCOW, 19 February (BelTA) – Integration in the Eurasian Economic Union should be secured by unified laws. Chairman of the Council of the Republic of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich made the statement as he met with Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of Russia Sergei Naryshkin on 19 February, BelTA has learned.

“Since the Eurasian Economic Union Treaty has been signed, a lot has to be done to harmonize and unify the national legislations. The Treaty has been signed while the national laws are left unchanged. There are no fundamental disagreements but integration should be secured by modern legislation. We should get closer to each other instead of walking in parallel. We surely don’t want to walk away from each other,” noted Mikhail Myasnikovich.

The MP stated that interparliamentary cooperation between Belarus and Russia has a lot of issues and suggested discussing both tactical and strategic plans.

The meeting took place as part of an official visit of the Belarus parliament delegation to Russia on 18-19 February. A meeting with Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia Valentina Matviyenko was scheduled for 19 February.
