Myasnikovich in favor of harmonizing legislations of EEU states

MINSK, 2 April (BelTA) – It is important to harmonize legislations of the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich said at the opening of the ninth session of the Council of the Republic of the fifth convocation on 2 April, BelTA has learned.

“The issue of unifying legislations comes to the forefront (in the EEU. – BelTA’s note). It is our area of work. But the Eurasian Economic Union does not have a parliamentary dimension. However, it does not mean that the Council of the Republic should stand aside from adjusting the national legislation to the norms of the EEU treaty, harmonizing and unifying Belarusian legal acts with the legal frameworks of the member states,” Mikhail Myasnikovich remarked addressing the MPs. The speaker believes that close cooperation between the states and their parliaments is the only way to promptly create unified norms in present conditions.

According to Mikhail Myasnikovich, these issues were top on the agenda of the meetings with Chairperson of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko, Chairman of the State Duma Sergei Naryshkin, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov which took place during the official visit of the Belarusian parliamentary delegation to Moscow in February 2015. “I would like to tell the MPs present at the today’s session that we understand the importance of unification, which means the adoption of identical mechanisms of legal regulation in certain spheres and the harmonization of legislation – the approximation of the legal frameworks of the member states aimed at ensuring similar (associated) legal regulation,” he stressed.

The chairman of the Council of the Republic added that the open discussion of these issues, conditions and depth of integration with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich in February and March 2015 proved the importance of these issues.
