MPs highlight great potential for Belarus-Czechia cooperation

MINSK, 12 December (BelTA) – Vice Speaker of the House of Representatives Boleslav Pirshtuk met with Daniel Pawlas, member of the Czech Parliament, the head of the Czech-Belarusian parliamentary friendship group, in Minsk on 12 December, BelTA has learned

Boleslav Pirshtuk noted that the parliamentary relations between the two countries are becoming positive and dynamic, including in international venues. “There is a good potential that we can realize at the level of parliamentary organizations,” the vice speaker said and suggested revisiting the issue of signing a framework agreement on cooperation between the parliaments.

He added that Belarus is interested in bolstering trade, economic and investment ties. The vice speaker also noted that the trade between the two countries is dominated by services, including in high technologies. Boleslav Pirshtuk suggested consolidating this trend, including in view of Belarus’ large potential in IT.

Daniel Pawlas stressed that it is high time to improve bilateral relations. He is confident that Belarus and the Czech Republic may become an example of cooperation for other states. He named economy, social sector, sport, and tourism as priority areas.

The parties discussed opportunities to set up joint ventures, which products will be delivered to the markets of the EAEU countries. Belarus expressed interest in developing cooperation in the energy, industry and transport sectors. The sides also talked over ways to expand interregional cooperation, develop a legal framework of bilateral relations, including in investment, science and technology, and culture. Belarusian MPs invited Czech counterparts to attend a conference of the OSCE PA Silk Road Support Group which is due in Minsk in spring 2019.
