MINSK, 14 August (BelTA) – Valery Malashko, Chairman of the Standing Commission on Healthcare, Physical Culture, Family and Youth Policy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, outlined the areas where Belarus and Georgia could expand cooperation during an online meeting of the parliamentary working groups of the two countries, BelTA has learned.

Valery Malashko emphasized that long-standing relations based on mutual respect and goodwill have been built between Belarus and Georgia. “Our peoples are well-acquainted with each other’s culture, traditions, and achievements. We have significant opportunities for the further development of trade, economic, humanitarian, educational, and, importantly, tourism ties,” he said.

The MP believes that parliaments play a special role in this work. Inter-parliamentary dialogue builds trust, helps to better understand each other’s positions and interests, and identifies areas for practical cooperation. “It is lawmakers, representing the interests of citizens and regions, who can provide additional momentum to bilateral contacts and promote the implementation of concrete joint initiatives,” he said.

According to Valery Malashko, friendship groups should become important instruments of such interaction. Their activities allow for maintaining a regular dialogue, exchanging information in a timely manner, discussing current issues, and forming proposals for the development of cooperation. Establishing direct contacts between friendship groups will create a solid foundation for structured joint work.

The MP pointed out that one of the priorities could be parliamentary assistance to trade and economic cooperation. “Our countries have the capacity to expand business contacts and search for new mutually beneficial projects. Lawmakers can facilitate the establishment of direct ties between enterprises, chambers of commerce and industry, industry associations, and, of course, regions. An important task is to create favorable conditions for interaction between representatives of small and medium-sized businesses. Naturally, we suggest paying particular attention to humanitarian cooperation,” he said.

Belarus and Georgia have a rich cultural potential and heritage, showing great care for their national traditions. According to Valery Malashko, broad opportunities exist for developing tourism, holding culture days, art exhibitions, concerts, film screenings, and literary meetings that can enhance mutual interest and deepen friendly ties between the peoples of the two countries.

“To achieve tangible results, contacts must become regular and consistent. The Belarusian side proposes designating coordinators, drafting a list of priority topics, and maintaining continuous working contact. Modern communication tools allow for holding meetings without significant organizational costs and promptly discussing arising issues,” he said.

“Belarusian MPs are open to constructive interaction and are ready to consider the proposals of their Georgian colleagues. We expect that today’s conversation will mark the beginning of a sustainable dialogue that will develop in an atmosphere of mutual respect, trust, and interest specifically in a practical result,” Valery Malashko emphasized.

The MP is certain that the intensification of inter-parliamentary contacts will provide additional momentum to cooperation between Belarus and Georgia, as well as facilitate the expansion of ties between government agencies, regions, business and public circles, and educational and cultural institutions.
