Most members of local election commissions nominated by public associations in Belarus

MINSK, 8 January (BelTA) – Representatives of the public associations account for 47% of the members of the precinct election commissions for the elections to the local councils of deputies of the 28th convocation in Belarus, reads a statement posted on the website of the Belarusian Central Election Commission, BelTA has learned.

More than 30,000 members of the precinct election commissions are representatives of public associations. The most active public associations were the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus, the Belaya Rus public association and the Belarusian Union of Women. Some 3,600 members of the election commissions have been nominated by the political parties. This accounts for about 5.6% of the total membership. Most of them are the members of the Republican Party of Labor and Justice, the Communist Party of Belarus, the Belarusian Social and Sports Party.

Labor collectives have also nominated their representatives to the precinct election commissions. They account for 12.4% of the total, or 7,900 people. More than 22,000 members of the precinct commissions (almost 35%) have been nominated by voters living in the territory of the corresponding constituency.

All in all, 5,870 precinct election commissions have been set up for the upcoming local elections in Belarus. They include more than 63,800 members.

The elections to the local councils of deputies of the 28th convocation will be held in Belarus on 18 February. Nomination of candidates to deputies is running from 10 December to 8 January inclusively.
