MINSK, 16 December (BelTA) – An atmosphere of trust and friendship has been created between the parliaments of Belarus and Kazakhstan, Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Valery Mitskevich said as he met with a delegation of the Mazhilis, the lower house of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, BelTA has learned.

“I would like to congratulate you on Independence Day of Kazakhstan. This is a very important day, and, of course, we are very glad that you are here on this day,” said Valery Mitskevich. “You have recently had a presidential election. As we know, the election was conducted at a very high level. Similar processes are taking place in our country now, as we are working on a legislative framework for the Belarusian People’s Congress. We know that you have already created the National Kurultai [Congress]. When we were working on constitutional amendments, on creating this very important body, we were studying international practices. We were watching what was going on in friendly countries, including, of course, Kazakhstan, because we have a lot of common processes,” Valery Mitskevich added.

According to him, the parliaments of the two countries maintain a very good dialogue: “An atmosphere of trust and friendship has been created. We hosted a delegation of the Parliament of Kazakhstan in June. We held a conference dedicated to the common victory in the Great Patriotic War. The victory was really won by unity. Back then our peoples jointly changed history as they defended our independence at a huge cost, and therefore we need to keep preserving historical memory, because this is our common history.”

“I believe that we should pay greater attention to economic cooperation as we promote our inter-parliamentary contacts, because economy is at the heart of everything. And, of course, a greater interaction between economies and businesses means better political relations. Seven joint ventures operate on the territory of Kazakhstan. I hope that yesterday you had the opportunity to see how one of our industry flagships, MAZ, operates. Today we will show you an agricultural enterprise. We have great cooperation prospects in agriculture, in export-import of agricultural products. We have substantial expertise and knowledge in this field and will be happy to share it with Kazakhstan. This will benefit our interaction, our economies, our peoples,” Valery Mitskevich emphasized.

“We are working very actively within the framework of the CSTO. We always support each other on different platforms. I would like to thank Kazakhstan for this. I hope that we will keep doing it for the benefit of our countries. I hope that you will leave Belarus only with positive emotions,” the vice speaker added.

During the meeting the parties are set to discuss inter-parliamentary contacts, cooperation on international platforms, promotion of Belarus-Kazakhstan cooperation in trade, economy and humanitarian matters.

The parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Kazakhstan is on a visit to Belarus on 15-16 December. The plan of their visit includes a tour of Minsk Automobile Plant, the Dzerzhinsky agricultural complex, and the study of  products of companies affiliated with the Belarusian light industry concern Bellegprom.
