Minsk conference outcomes might be reflected in UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy review

Minsk conference outcomes might be reflected in UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy review

MINSK, 4 September (BelTA) – Belarusian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Dapkiunas believes that the outcomes of the international high-level conference "Countering terrorism through innovative approaches and the use of new and emerging technologies" in Minsk will be included in the review of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, BelTA has learned.

“We hope that the Minsk wave of digital security will not subside in New York that will host the Second United Nations High-level Conference of Heads of Counter-Terrorism Agencies of Member States in June 2020. We also hope that it will make a meaningful contribution  to another review of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy,” Andrei Dapkiunas said.

He emphasized that Belarus will keep working towards a unifying agenda and towards the removal of dividing lines. In this regard, as the Belarusian president reiterated, Belarus did not withdraw from the IRNFT and is ready to spearhead efforts to pass a declaration of responsible states on non-deployment of intermediate-range and shorter-range missiles in Europe. “This is another step of ours towards a dialogue on restoring trust in the global context,” Andrei Dapkiunas emphasized.

He thanked Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Office Vladimir Voronkov and his office, the UN Office in Belarus for their assistance in arranging the conference and all the participants of the forum for making it a success.
