MFA highlights mutual interest of Belarus and UAE in cooperation

MINSK, 16 December (BelTA) – Belarus and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are open for mutually beneficial cooperation on a wide range of issues, Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said at the 3rd meeting of the Belarus-UAE joint committee on intergovernmental cooperation on 16 December.

According to Vladimir Makei, the two countries have significantly stepped up their bilateral cooperation recently and continue developing contacts between ministries and agencies, increasing the tourist exchange. “This shows mutual willingness to develop cooperation in the widest range of areas,” the minister said.

Belarus and the UAE hold regular meetings of different levels, which testifies to a friendly nature of the bilateral relations.

“The United Arab Emirates are one of Belarus’ leading partners in the Middle East. I would like to stress, however, that the potential of our cooperation is still hugely untapped. We need to shift from ordinary trade to deeper production cooperation that envisages joint companies and technology transfer,” Vladimir Makei said.

The two countries have good prospects for cooperation in investment, industry, agriculture and food, sport, tourism, healthcare, and science.

UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Mohammed Gargash noted, for his part, that the two countries have great mutual relations, including in the political avenue. “Our major goal today is to find ways to use the current base of bilateral cooperation to further advance the relations in trade, economic and investment sectors,” he stressed.

The third meeting of the joint committee on intergovernmental cooperation between Belarus and the United Arab Emirates is underway at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 15-16 December. Belarus is represented at the event by Vladimir Makei, the UAE – by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Mohammed Gargash.
