MINSK, 10 June (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia have been gradually deepening integration in the Union State, Chairwoman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia Valentina Matviyenko said in an interview with the Belarus One TV channel on 9 June, BelTA has learned.
Regular contacts between the authorities of the two countries contribute to the integration in the Union State. The parties determine the agenda and a roadmap for bilateral relations, the Speaker of the upper house of the Russian parliament said. “This proves a special, privileged, trust-based, strategic and union character of our relations,” said Valentina Matviyenko.
As for the interregional cooperation, she noted that this format turned to be very efficient and productive. According to her, regions account for a big part of mutual trade. At present Belarus cooperates with 80 entities of the Russian Federation. “This brings great results. Such cooperation is very pragmatic,” stressed the Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia.
Valentina Matviyenko added that forums of regions that Belarus and Russia hold are good platforms for signing new agreements, establishing new contacts, and expanding cooperation.
The 3rd Belarus-Russia Forum of Regions took place in Minsk on 7-8 June. This year’s forum set an all-time record for the number of participants. More than 20 new documents and nearly 150 commercial contracts were signed during the event.
