Makei to lead Belarus’ delegation at EaP Summit in Riga

MINSK, 20 May (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei will take part in the Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga on behalf of Belarus, BelTA learned from spokesman for the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dmitry Mironchik.

“In accordance with the decision of the head of state, Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei will represent Belarus at the Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga,” Dmitry Mironchik said.

The Eastern Partnership Summit will be held in Riga on 21-22 May. Vladimir Makei already took part in the meeting of the ministers of foreign affairs of the Visegrad Group member countries and the Eastern Partnership Initiative member states several days ago. Its participants discussed the preparations for the Riga Summit. They also talked over the prospects of the Eastern Partnership, the possibility of developing dialogue between the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union, and other cooperation issues.

Vladimir Makei outlined Belarus’ position regarding the Eastern Partnership Initiative and stressed the necessity to take a non-confrontational and pragmatic approach to the organization of the Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga.
