Makei sees positive prospects for Belarusian-Polish relations

MINSK, 17 October (BelTA) – The relations between Belarus and Poland have great positive prospects, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said in an interview with the Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita, BelTA has learned.

“In general, both the current geopolitical situation and the situation in the region create great positive prospects for our bilateral relations,” Vladimir Makei noted.

However, the minister pointed out that there are some sensitive issues in the relations between the two countries relating, inter alia, to the common history, the activities of the Union of Poles in Belarus, and the unofficial Union of Poles in Belarus. “We are ready to discuss these issues. We have agreed to search for points of contact that would help us clear up some uncertainties. We talk about this with our friends, with representatives of the Polish government, and we maintain close contacts with the Polish Embassy in Belarus. There are contacts between our Ministries of Foreign Affairs. We have made some advances. I think that we will resolve the issue sooner or later,” Vladimir Makei emphasized.

“Stability and peace in the society are the key objectives and priorities of our state policy. This is the position of the Belarusian President,” Vladimir Makei said.
