Makei discusses cooperation with EU, OSCE, IAEA in Munich

MINSK, 14 February (BelTA) - Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei visited Germany on 12-14 February to take part in the 52nd Munich Security Conference, BelTA learnt from the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Vladimir Makei met with Germany’s Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the German Federal Government's Coordinator for Intersocietal Cooperation with Russia, Central Asia and the Eastern Partnership countries, Special Representative of the German Federal Government for the German OSCE Chairmanship 2016 Gernot Erler, Chairman of the German Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations Wolfgang Buchele to discuss the prospects for bilateral cooperation between Belarus and Germany. Due to Germany’s OSCE Chairmanship in 2016, the parties also considered the issues regarding collaboration within the organization.

Vladimir Makei also conducted negotiations with European Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn, Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway and a number of other Ministers of the EU member-states. During the meetings, the Belarusian side put a special emphasis on the necessity to restore full-scale cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and the European Union.

The state and prospects for the development of bilateral political, trade and economic relations were discussed during the meetings of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus with Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Ghana, Georgia and Iran, Minister of Defense of Pakistan and representatives of the Senior Staff of the U.S. Department of State.

Vladimir Makei also met with Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Yukiya Amano to provide him with the detailed information on the construction process of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, stressing that the principle of safety of the future plant makes the foundation of the process.

Vladimir Makei also held a number of meetings with representatives of the European business circles and experts in the sphere of international relations.
