Makei: Belarus will remain donor of regional security in a difficult geopolitical environment

MINSK, 19 October (BelTA) - In a difficult geopolitical environment, Belarus is an island of calm and order and will continue to be a donor of regional security, Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said at a ceremony to unveil a commemorative plaque dedicated to the UN Relief and Rehabilitation Administration (UNRRA) mission in Belarus in the Loshitsa Manor Museum, BelTA has learned.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs noted that Belarus’ national experience can be used in the international arena. "In a difficult geopolitical environment, Belarus is an island of calm and order and will continue to be a donor of regional security. This has been made possible thanks to the strong state power and efficient socially-oriented state policy. Belarus will continue this policy,” said Vladimir Makei.

According to him, as a founding member of the United Nations, Belarus has always attached special importance to the cooperation with this organization. As a sovereign state Belarus was the first in the former Soviet Union to open the UN Office in 1992. Since then Belarus and the office, together with other UN agencies have accumulated impressive experience in various areas and continue constructive and effective cooperation.

Vladimir Makei pointed out that Belarus will further contribute to the strengthening of the United Nations and aspire towards international cooperation based on trust, respect, accord, and mutual assistance. The Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs greeted everyone on the forthcoming UN’s 70th anniversary due on 24 October. “By working together in this organization, we will make our planet a better, more beautiful and peaceful place,” he stressed.

The unveiling ceremony was attended by Charge d'Affaires ad interim of the USA in Belarus Scott Rauland, UN/UNDP Resident Coordinator in Belarus Sanaka Samarasinha, and representatives of foreign diplomatic corps.
