Makei: Belarus stands ready to help find ways to establish equal dialogue in the region

MINSK, 10 June (BelTA) – Belarus is ready to help find ways to establish an equal dialogue in the region, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said at a meeting of the CSTO Foreign Ministers Council in Yerevan, BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.

Vladimir Makei expressed concern over the unprecedented level of escalation of military-political tensions in the European region against the background of the crumbling system of checks and balances based on international treaties in the field of arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation.

"The minister stressed the readiness of Belarus to help find ways to establish an equal and mutually respectful dialogue aimed at restoring trust, ending escalation and armed confrontation in the region," the press service said.

The minister also drew attention to the recent letter of the Belarusian head of state to the UN secretary general with a proposal to launch a global process in the spirit of San Francisco, the result of which, according to the diplomat, should be clear and transparent agreements on the rules of the new world order which will provide security guarantees to all members of the international community.

Vladimir Makei also stressed the need for cohesion and joint coordinated actions of the CSTO states in the face of incessant external pressure on sovereign states though sanctions mechanisms.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the state and prospects for the international and regional situation and its impact on the security of the CSTO member states. The foreign ministers discussed the ways of improving the organization's crisis response mechanisms, stressed the importance of advancing cooperation in international organizations for a more effective response to challenges and threats to security both the CSTO member states and the Eurasian region of collective security as a whole.

The foreign ministers signed a plan of consultations on foreign policy, defense and security for 2022-2024, and a statement on international security.
