Makei: Belarus, Russia approaching mutual visa recognition

MINSK, 29 May (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia are gradually moving towards the mutual recognition of visas, Belarus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told the media following the talks with Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov on 29 May, BelTA has learned.

“A special focus of today’s talks was on the intergovernmental agreement on mutual visa recognition. We have been gradually moving towards the removal of all the exiting barriers in the area,” Vladimir Makei said.

Belarus and Russia signed an intergovernmental agreement on certain issues related to the rules of entry of foreign nationals and stateless persons attending international sport events on 29 May. In line with the document foreign fans will be able to travel through Belarus visa-free during the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia from 4 June to 25 July. Russia, in turn, will introduce visa-free entry and stay on its territory for foreign fans attending the 2nd European Games MINSK 2019.
