Makei: Belarus' cooperation with EU, USA is encouraging

MINSK, 3 October (BelTA) – Cooperation of Belarus with the EU and the USA as well as with distant-arc countries is encouraging, Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said at the opening of the first conference of Belarus’ honorary consuls on 3 October, BelTA has learned.

"The atmosphere of relations with the EU and the USA is incrementally improving and we should move forward," the minister said. "Dialogue is what we all need."

He stressed that the matters of political and economic cooperation of Belarus with foreign states would be discussed in details during the conference.

The meetings of the honorary consuls with heads of government, ministries, agencies and the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry will be on the agenda. They will visit the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone and the poultry company Agrokombinat Dzerzhinskiy. The visiting of the exposition of the Belarusian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War History, the Mound of Glory memorial complex, the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater and the Belarusian State Circus will promote development of cultural and humanitarian cooperation.

The conference will run till 6 October. Today 80 Belarusian honorary consuls represent and protect the rights and interests of Belarus' citizens in 56 countries. Their other tasks are to promote friendly relations and expand political, trade, economic, investment, cultural, scientific, and other ties with foreign states. Consular districts of Belarusian honorary consuls usually comprise industrial and financial centers. Meanwhile, the honorary consuls get well-deserved recognition among politicians and businessmen.
