Makei: Belarus aims to strengthen ties with all partners without detriment to anyone

Makei: Belarus aims to strengthen ties with all partners without detriment to anyone

MINSK, 19 May (BelTA) – Belarus aims to intensify the interaction with all its neighbors and partners without detriment to anyone and at no expense to anyone, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said at the opening of the international conference 25 Years of Belarus’ Foreign Policy on 19 May, BelTA has learned.

“The world has not become any simpler. Vanishing division lines are replaced by others. All this proves that the fundamental decision of the Belarusian leadership to pursue a multi-vector policy was the right choice. We have been repeatedly pushed both by the East and the West to make a so-called final geopolitical choice,” the minister said.

With this in mind, Vladimir Makei emphasized that Belarus’ interests are not focused solely on one specific direction. The essence of foreign policy is in working consistently to develop internal and external conditions for the construction of multiple geopolitical pillars.

The minister noted that Belarus is developing allied relations with Russia not at the expense of the interests of the countries of the European Union. As for the trade and economic partner relations with the EU, their development is in no way inconsistent with the close cooperation in the East.

Located at the junction of the Eurasian Economic Union and the European Union, Belarus is in favor of developing sustainable mechanisms of dialogue between these two integration associations. The idea of ‘integration of integrations’, which is a principle of cooperation focused on a joint search for the best ways to consolidate growth and promote sustainable development and on coordinated action to address global threats and challenges, has been warmly received by a number of countries and international organizations,” Vladimir Makei said.

He also emphasized that the idea to bring together different integration models gave the basis for the conference on economic integration and sustainable development in Eurasia towards 2030 that was organized by Belarus jointly with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe in Minsk in 2016.
