Makei accepts official invitation to visit North Korea

MINSK, 9 March (BelTA) – Foreign Minister of Belarus Vladimir Makei has accepted an official invitation to visit the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Su-yong told reporters after the meeting with the Belarusian Foreign Minister on 9 March, BelTA has learned.

According to the North Korean Foreign Minister, the exchange of visits proves that the countries are eager to enhance relations. Ri Su-yong noted that Belarus and North Korea cherish the old traditions of friendship and cooperation.

At the meeting held on 9 March the sides discussed all aspects of relations and drew special attention to economic issues.

The North Korean Foreign Minister confirmed the readiness of his country to advance the relations with Belarus to a brand-new level. “We have agreed that it is needed to create new mechanisms and formats of economic cooperation, step up interaction between foreign ministries,” Ri Su-yong said. He also praised Belarus’ commitment to economic development and the improvement of people’s living standards.
