Lukashenko: Zone of instability around the CIS is expanding

MINSK, 19 May (BelTA) – The zone of instability around the CIS is expanding, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said during the meeting with the heads of delegations partaking in the 40th session of the CIS Council of Heads of Security Agencies and Special Services on 19 May, BelTA informs.

The head of state stressed that today the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) has to deal with new challenges which require solidarity and joint response. “Unfortunately, the zone of instability around us is expanding. We have to acknowledge that the mechanisms of ensuring international and regional security are eroding. Certain external political forces return to the bloc thinking of the Cold War period. Attempts to draw vast regions into conflicts and new arms race are obvious. This is absolutely inadmissible,” the President emphasized.

Alexander Lukashenko pointed out the deteriorating migration situation and mentioned the fact that Europe faces a true humanitarian catastrophe because of the instability in the Middle East. The President stressed that this problem has existed for a long time, and Belarus has been trying to solve it for at least a decade.

“We have been dealing with this problem for a long time. We have certain experience in this field. However, Belarus will not cope with it alone, including from the financial point of view,” the head of state said.
