Lukashenko warns of grim consequences if migrant crisis is not resolved timely

GRODNO DISTRICT, 26 November (BelTA) - If the migrant crisis is not resolved timely, the situation will become much worse, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with refugees at the logistics center near the Bruzgi checkpoint on the Belarusian-Polish border on 26 November, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko urged the refugees to decide for themselves whether to return home, or suffer from hardship and deprivation in order to get into the EU.

“Think it over. The only thing I can say: the situation will not become any better, unfortunately. We won't do anything by force. I promise you: everything that I and the Belarusian government can do, we will do it. We will continue asking Western countries to help you. It is not only a human problem. I look further: if we do not solve the problem of refugees in Belarus now, the situation will become much worse in winter already. We understand that a huge number of refugees will rush here and it will be impossible to contain them at the border,” stressed the head of state.

The president stressed that the problem needs to be addressed now, before it has become bigger.
